AppDate: Love these Valentine’s Day apps

In this Valentine’s Day AppDate special, SEAN BACHER highlights the I Love You! app, the Romantimatic message scheduler, Love Calculator, Love Poems and Skype.

I Love You!

The I Love You app allows users to create custom love cards and share them with each other. Simply choose the best picture of a loved one, select a frame, add a few lines of text and a personalised electronic card is ready to send. Images can be rotated, cropped and even edited directly in the I Lover You! app.

Platform: Windows Phone 8.1 Stockists: Get it from the Windows Phone Store here. Expect to pay: A free download.

Romantimatic

Even with a smartphone in our pockets making it quick and easy to send an ‚”I love you‚” or ‚”Miss you‚” message, we sometimes get so carried away with our day-to day chores that we simply forget. With Romantimatic, users set reminders on their phones for when they want to send a message. Even better, they can schedule all their messages the day before so they don’t have to worry about getting that special message out on time.

Platform: iOS Stockists: Get it from the App Store here. Expect to pay: R11

Love Calculator

The Love Calculator not only ‚”determines‚” your compatibility with your partner, but it also displays a sentence that best describes your relationship and offers a link to a song to download. The app shows a graph of your emotional biorhythm and, if you are happy with the result, it can be shared on Facebook or Twitter although I strongly advise against this, unless you want to lose Twitter followers.

Platform: Android Platform: Get it from the Google Play here. Various app offering similar functions are available for other platforms. Expect to pay: A free download.

Love Poems

If you can’t think of something romantic to say to your partner this Valentine’s Day, fear not, as Love Poems is here. The app displays hundreds of poems that, it claims, lets users build on their relationships and keep the romance alive. Love quotes are also included that can be sent to your partner via SMS or most other messaging platforms. Users also have the option of sharing the love via Facebook and Twitter.

Platform: BlackBerry OS 10 and above Stockists: Get it from the BlackBerry World here. Expect to pay: A free download.

Skype

Most users would think of Skype as more of a business or family tool. But, what happens if you are in a long-distance relationship, or if a loved one is on business on the other side of the world? Skype is a great platform for sharing a few endearing words on the day of love when you can’t physically be with each other.

Platform: All major platforms, including PC and Mac OS. Stockists: Visit the store linked to your device. Expect to pay: A free download.
