Film fest open to SA adventurers

The annual Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour comes to South Africa in October. As part of the festival, Cape Union Mart invites local filmmakers to contribute to the Cape Union Mart Adventure Film Challenge 2016.

“The purpose of the Cape Union Mart Adventure Film Challenge is to celebrate our Proudly South African outdoor community and the adventures they challenge themselves to do on a daily basis,” explains Odile Hufkie, Marketing Manager at Cape Union Mart.

Local filmmakers and outdoor enthusiasts are invited to submit a five-minute short film on their South African Outdoor Moments. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges involved in the outdoor filmmaker’s community.

The winning submission will be screened alongside the 2016 Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, which will be shown in South African Ster-Kinekor cinemas countrywide.

“We look forward to awarding a R10 000 cash prize plus K-Way gear to the value of R2000,” says Hufkie.

Cape Union Mart’s annual Adventure Film Challenge provides South African filmmakers with a platform to celebrate their love for the outdoors and film-making creativity.

Last year’s winner was Ralph Meyer, with his five-minute film, “A Trail Runner Portrait” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g_ZDQF_DaI)

“Winning the challenge was a huge honour,” he says.

“It was always my dream to see one of my films on the big screen and the fact that the film was shown all over South Africa made it all the more exciting. If it wasn’t for Cape Union Mart and the Adventure Film Challenge, we wouldn’t have been as motivated as we were to go out there and capture all the beauty this country has to offer.”

To enter, upload your five-minute film to YouTube and comment on the Cape Union Mart Adventure Film Challenge 2016 Facebook Page with a link to your film. Use the hashtag #AdventureFilmSA on Twitter.
